Executive Board: President

Charyl Garman

Charyl is a 4th generation northern Californian who has resided in Arizona for 46 years after accepting a supervisory position with the City of Tempe Parks and Recreation Department. She has worked throughout her adult life, serving in various supervisory positions, retiring officially in just March 2, 2018. She has been a volunteer in many capacities: with her church (Women’s Ministry, Children’s ministry, facilities, special events), girls’ sports coach and Girl Scout leader. Most recently she has completed a 4-year term on the Grace Christian Academy Board, serving 2 years as president.

She is married Dale and they have two adult children, one of whom has 3 adopted children, a great source of joy for the entire family.

Charyl began quilting in 2005 when she chose fabrics to make her younger daughter’s wedding gift (not the smartest of projects to begin her quilting experience). She took a beginning quilt class at Quilters’ Ranch in Tempe and has been quilting ever since; taking multiple classes to gain skills and enjoy the growing friendships in the quilting community. She finds quilting more satisfying than making clothes, a task she has done in the years past.

She participates in several small quilting groups and has been a member-at-large of the AZ Quilters’ Guild for several years.

Charyl looks forward to the opportunity to use her organizational, leadership and administrative skills to grow the AQG membership, develop incentives to encourage younger quilters to join in the activities provided by AQG and to make the presence of AQG better known throughout AZ.
