Chapter Reports: Card Trick Quilters

2016 Reports

September 2016

It has been a busy spring and summer in the White Mountains of Arizona. With the Cedar Fire at our doorstep, our chapter was preparing for our annual quilt show. Thankfully we did not have to evacuate, so it was on with the show. The show is titled “For the Love of Quilts” and is held every July. The dates this year were July 8th and 9th at the Honda Resort. Approximately 124 quilts were entered with a special category called “Pigmania Challenge.” That’s right we made pig themed quilts. We were privileged to have Heidi Pridemore with us on July 7th for an all- day seminar. Not only did she share many of her quilt designs, she also gave us many helpful tips.

Several of our members participated in the construction of a queen size quilt to be raffled at the show. The proceeds from the raffle will be shared between three local charities in the White Mountains. We also have taken part in the Quilts of Valor program. We had a cake reception and presented 22 quilts to veterans from our area. These men were so honored to be chosen as recipients of these beautiful quilts. And we enjoy expressing our creativity to thank them for their service.
It’s not too late to come up and enjoy our cool weather in the White Mountains. There are a lot of quilters up here and several quilt shops to visit.

The Card Trick Quilters' Quilt Show "For The Love of Quilts" was held on July 8th and 9th. It was a lovely display of quilts held at the Hon-Dah Hotel & Resort in the White Mountains. Among those winning awards at the show were AQG members Geri Cavanagh for Overall Exemplary Domestic Machine Quilting & Overall Exemplary Machine Piecing and Becky Gibson for Second in Medium Applique.

Also represented were Youth quilts by Riley Hurford and Jackson Hurford who reside in Montana but are Youth members of AQG since they work with their grandmother on their quilts during vacation in Arizona. The quilt show presented Quilts of Valor on Saturday. If you missed this event, put it on your calendar for 2017. You will not be disappointed!
