Chapter Reports: Cotton Patchers

2016 Reports

April 2016

The Cotton Patchers have been busy for the last 6 weeks getting ready for our 17th Annual Quilt Show which was held the last weekend in February and first weekend of March. Our ladies did an awesome job again this year, it just gets better and better. For a small chapter we had very good participation – 125 entries. Our Hall of Fame Winner was Leslie Robinson Simmons for her Y2K Baltimore which was all hand-pieced and hand quilted. The People’s Choice Challenge winner was our Featured Quilter Meriul Easton’s Winter on the Farm, and Overall People’s Choice winner was Bev Bespalko for her Affairs of the Heart quilt. Congratulations to all it was a wonderful show. Our raffle baskets and items for sale were again a great success. Our Opportunity Quilt donated by Debi Grundmeier was very well appreciated by all and won by Tina McNamer.

March 2016

The Cotton Patchers have been busy patching! In December we made notebook covers for needy children for Christmas and also had a wonderful Christmas Party once again. Our group has weekly social & charity sews at a local church. Some of the group attends that church. They graciously let us use the facility for no charge. In turn we always make Christmas gifts for the underprivileged children that the church takes under its wing. At approximately 100 kids – that’s a lot of work that our ladies are happy to do for our community.

We have been busy making House Block quilts for kids. This project started with directions on how to make a house block. A challenge was issued to the group as to how many blocks they could make in a set period of time. Prizes were awarded to the two top contributors – 100 blocks & 60 blocks.

We dropped quilts off at the Coolidge Court System, Casa Grande Child Protective Services, and the Coolidge Fire & Police Departments. So many members have been donating their time and materials to piece and quilt – you go girls! We also have been taking care of the community 4 legged furry children!! Pet beds were again donated to the Pinal Animal Shelter and to the Casa Grande Shelter.

We’ve also been busy with our education. In November we hosted the John Flynn “Storm at Sea” Class and just this week hosted a Virginia Walton “Whirlpool” Class. We also have had members teaching other members new skills such as the popular “Folded Wreath Centerpiece”. In April we will be hosting a Reeze Hanson “Color Confidence for Quilters” Workshop.

An open invitation is issued to all quilters and their friends to come to our 17th Annual Coolidge Family Quilt Show on February 26, 27, & 28th and March 4, 5, & 6 from 10 am – 4 pm at the Coolidge Womans Center @ 240 West Pinkley Avenue, Coolidge AZ – FREE ADMISSION. We will be showing our quilts and selling opportunity quilt tickets (drawing March 6, 2016), Raffle Baskets, quilts, and other items for sale.
