Chapter Reports: Sunrise Stitchers

2015 Reports

May 2016

Sunrise Stitchers, Phoenix, has been an active quilt club for over 30 years, and continue to offer members and visitors an opportunity to meet and share new ideas and techniques through programs featuring speakers, sew ins, trips, etc. We meet at Quiltz, 3851 E. Thunderbird Rd., Phoenix, the 2nd Tuesday of every month, at 10:00 a.m.

Currently, our “chair person” position is held by a committee of 5, who share their ideas to fill the various duties of the office. Our year begins July 1st and ends June 31st. This past 6 months we have had several speakers, a shop hop to Prescott (lots of fun), charity sew in (wonderful opportunity to get better acquainted with our members), a Strip Poker card game using 2 ½” by w of fabric strips, for chips, (lots of fun, and great variety of fabric exchange).

We continued an ongoing donation project with Homeward Bound, a shelter that provides transitional housing and comprehensive social services to families with children who are fleeing domestic violence. We focus our donations on the children’s needs. To date this year we have donated 67 quilts.

We also added a new donation project of twin size patriotic quilts to Veterans who are on Hospice care. We have donated 7 quilts so far and have recently added other items such as lap quilts, throws for patients in wheel chairs, pillows and various other needed items. This addition has allowed more of our members to participate who could not quilt the larger bed size quilts.

In February we had a Traveling Teacher, Kimberly Purdy meet with several of our members and instructed us all in the “French Braid Frenzy” table runner. Lots of fun to see all the different choices of fabric.

We are looking forward to our Strands of Jewels Challenge, due April 12th. We are to make a wall hanging to be 6” X 60”, any pattern or technique, can be horizontal or vertical. Only restriction is it must be the above size. Very challenging and will be fun to see the outcome.
