August 2016

Road Trip Fun in June! We held our June meeting at Flying Pig Studio, the quilting studio of Cindy Stahl. She does not have a website at this time but your can check her out on Facebook page Flying Pig Studio. We all came home with great ideas for our own sewing studios! Cindy gives lessons in quilting, embroidery, ice dying and long arm quilting.
Show and Tell We have such talented members who always bring such great quilts to show!

Crazy Quilt Class Eight of our members met at the May Community Sew for a class on Crazy Quilting taught by Sylvia. Great work Daisies!

May 2016

Our speaker for our April meeting was Mary Sartori. Mary gave a great demonstration on her “What If?” techniques. By starting with two basic squares, either 5 inch or 6 inch, by using cutting methods and rotating the fabrics she showed us lots of options to create blocks. Thanks Mary! Sylvia reminded us about the upcoming Crazy Quilt Class to be held during our Community Quilting Session on Tuesday May 24 from 10:00 to 3:00.

Our May speaker will be Delphia Anderson from the AQG Speakers Bureau. She will present a program on Civil War quilts. Lots of our members brought items for show and tell!

April 2016

Our speaker for our March meeting was one of our own members Valeri Foster. Valeri, who now travels between Arizona and Canada, she stays very busy quilting and giving quilting lessons. For years she travelled extensively to Saudi Arabia where she gave lessons and shared her creativity with local women. She brought several quilts to show and shared many tips and techniques. She also donated her unwanted projects for members use.

We had a fabric exchange headed up by Ardis Mistak. Twelve members signed up to participate at the February meeting. Each of the twelve members brought in twenty-four 10-½ inch squares of batik fabric and left with 24 squares of 12 different fabrics. We will use these however we want and share our results with the group.

Sandy Kimble showed her row design she created for our contribution to Arizona Quilters Society.

We will be donating a quilt from our stash to Anthem Pets, to be raffled off on April 30th to support their rescue efforts.

Sylvia Schmidt announced that we will be having a crazy quilt workshop during one of our Community Sew days, and the Rare Bear Project. The Rare Bear Project supports children with rare diseases. Participants make the bear bodies according to the pattern provided and they are then shipped flat (unfilled) and volunteers then finish the bears.

March 2016

Our new board took office in January and brought with them fresh ideas for the coming year. A big thank you goes to our retiring board members for a job well done.

We will have Co-Chairpersons this year with Sylvia Schmidt and Lynn Pinda working together. Our secretary will be Mary Roswick, Treasurer Pam Phillips, Community Quilting Cheryl Bernier, Communications Cindy Ginter and our Program position will be shared by Gabby Quint, Colleen Van Leeuwen and Dania Kinney.

DMQ meetings are held the first Friday of each month starting at 1:00pm at the Anthem Community Center.

Our guest for the February meeting was our AQG Board Buddy Dale Oaks who spoke on a variety of subjects. Dale urged our members to sign up to attend the Spring Roundup on April 9 in Sedona. The speaker will be Reeze Hanson of Morning Glory Designs.

Daisy Mountain Quilter continue to be very involved with the donation of quilts to several community groups. In 2015 we donated 12 quilts to Hospice of the Valley, 13 quilts to Veterans First, 4 quilts to Anthem neighbors and 1 to Mary Ann Derryberry. We have community sewing the last Tuesday of every month at the Anthem Community Center.

January 2016

The Annual Daisy Mountain Quilters’ Holiday Luncheon was held at the Anthem Country Club on December 4. We enjoyed a chicken or salmon entrée. A lovely door prize was raffled and won by Jeannette Brighton. QUILT (BINGO) was played using red and green M&Ms and three prizes were awarded. Gifts to those who completed the most projects this year were presented. Our Chair was given a lovely gift as well. A jolly time was had by all.
