Chapter Reports: Calico Cut-Ups

2016 Reports

October 2016

The summer has been long and hot but hasn’t dimmed the enthusiasm of our members.
Our meetings this summer included a class entitled Water Color Pencil Art Quilt, taught by member Ruby Koch, in June, a Multilayer Bag class taught by member Linda Longley, in August, inspiring Show and Tell at each meeting, Charity sew etc. Some of our members also enjoyed 2 different Retreats, our 6th Annual Retreat at the Hilton and lots of fun at Bear Cabin a week later. Members also enjoy our Secret Pal Exchange at each meeting.
Our website is up and running so please visit www. Calicocut-ups.org anytime to see what we are up to.
Speaking of up to, Calico Cut-ups will hold a Fall Auction, Monday, November 14th, 11:00am to 1:00pm at their meeting place at Pueblo El Mirage Resort. (El Mirage and Cactus). It will be a live auction with a “Hillbilly Auctioneer and Crew” who promise to keep things lively and fun. The club fundraiser may include quilts, kits, fabric, wall hangings, needlework, UFO’s and many other quilt related items that have been donated by members. We expect a nice turnout of merchandise. There will also be a Bake Sale. Come and join the fun!

August 2016

The first half of 2016 has been very busy for Calico Cut-Ups. Our new President, Bonnie Driscoll wanted our 100+ members to mingle and get to know more about one another so we spent one meeting in February playing an interactive game devised by our Program Chair, Linda Miller. The game sheets were set up like Bingo Cards with items like, Born in AZ, own a treadle machine, Been to a Beatles Concert, Made a Double wedding Ring Quilt etc., with a free space in the center of course. The members then went around the room asking each other the questions until one member had a “Bingo” with all spaces full. That member won a nice prize. Everyone enjoyed this great interaction and learned more about each other in the process. Member Rose Dentice offered a Beginner’s Sampler Quilting class after our business meeting the beginning of each month thru June. It was a very popular class and we were treated to the finished results at our 1st June meeting. In late January we had a one day Quilt Show sponsored by 35th Ave Sew and Vac along with a Bake Sale. The Quilt Show was well attended and showcased the wonderful work of our members. We had AQG Traveling Teacher, Barbara Janson, teach a Landscape Class. It was so popular we had to ask Barbara to come back and teach a 2nd class! We continue our popular UFO Challenge this year and we started working on organizing our BiAnnual Auction to be held in early November. The Auction is open to all other quild members. This summer we will be getting together our ideas and hope to have our new website up and running by fall.
