Chapters Across Arizona Continue to Help Others
With Help From the
Arizona Quilters Guild Mini-Grant Program.
(2009 Update)


Arizona Quilters Guild members have shown their generosity and compassion again.  Reports from the Chapters show just how dedicated they are to helping those in need in their communities.  Thank you again for making a difference.  Here are some of the accomplishments generated by the Mini-grants during 2009:

Calico Cut-Ups made and delivered 56 lap quilts to New Life Center, 21 lap quilts and 19 adult bibs to Hospice of the Valley ( Sun City PCU) and 27 lap quilts, 45 wheelchair covers and 13 adult bibs to Peoria Good Shepherd Care Center.

Copper Country Quilters purchased window blinds for the Quilt Gallery at Cobre Valley Center for the Arts.

Daisy Mountain Quilters made and delivered 33 quilts for various community charities.

Delightful Quilters  concentrated on one particular project while continuing to work on several others. The primary project, eighteen isolette covers and preemie blankets were delivered to Scottsdale Healthcare Shea.  The other projects include Christmas stockings for Devereaux Arizona and quilts to the Scottsdale Fire Department Crisis Response Teams.

DPS Quilt Angels prepared 570 comfort quilts, 30 of these were made during their three-day "quiltathon". The quilts were delivered to DPS Headquarters.

Estrella Mountain Quilters purchased fabric and batting to make 80 "Reader Quilts" for the Golden Gate Head Start program.  Each quilt was placed in a fabric tote along with a story book, crayons and a coloring book.  They also made 156 fabric tote bags that were donated to the West Valley Women’s Shelter for domestic violence.

Foothills Quilters members made at least two preemie quilts each and more to be distributed to various communit y charities.  Funds were used to purchase fabric and batting.

Havasu Stitchers made and delivered 177 quilts and fleece blankets to H.A.V.E.N. for homeless kids in Lake Havasu City.  In addition they donated 41 pillow cases to the Conkerr Cancer Project, 32 chemo scarves to the Havasu Regional Medical Center, 15 walker bags to the Havasu Nursing Center and 2 foley bags to a patient in need.

Kingman Quilters used the funds and donations to make over 70 comfort quilts for the Quilts of Valor and others.

Night Owls purchased western-themed fabrics and batting to make the quilt “Catalina Cowgirls” for ‘Quilt for a Cause”.  Quilts for a Cause auctions and sells handmade quilts to support the research of breast and gynecological cancer.

Nimble Thimbles made and donated 101 quilts, 30 to The Chandler Fire Dept., 18 to Project Linus (East Valley) and 53 to Child Protective Services.  They also donated 9 Carry Bags to Child Protective Services.

Prickly Piecers purchased batting, fabric, thread and miscellaneous quilting supplies to make quilts for; Juvenile Arthritis Foundation and AZ Blankets 4 Kids.

Quail Country Quilters donated quilting supplies to Hopi School, made 8 lap quilts for the Veterans home, 3 lap quilts and 25 twin quilts to Rusty’s Morningstar Ranch.

Rippers made pillow cases for CPS, layette blankets for newborns in need, queen-size quilt for a Christmas charity family and military helmet liners made out of fleece.

Strawberry Patchers made comfort quilts to be delivered to local charities.

Sundown Quilters have made over 40 quilts to be delivered to the Phoenix Fire Department for trauma victims.

Vulture Peak Patchers made 97 quilts that were delivered to the Veteran’s Hospital.  They also made 15 children’s lap quilts that were delivered to the Phoenix Police and Fire departments.  Dog beds and other items were made and donated to the new Wickenburg Animal Shelter.  Also, four queen size quilts were made and delivered to the Cancer Foundation, Morristown Library, Yarnell Library and the chapter’s Christmas family.

Yuma Quilters purchased batting and fabric to make comfort quilts for the Tucson Veterans Hospital and Yuma Regional Medical Center.
