Chapter Reports: The Git ’er Done Piecemakers
Did you hear the news???? We have a QUILT SHOW happening in our very own Navajo Room on March 5th, 8 to 3!!!! Don't miss out on any of it. There is, of course, no charge for the show, but your donations are welcomed for our charities. Ours being for women at "Center of Hope" here in Mesa and "Quilts for Kids with Cancer," the Hummingbirds charity. Both very deserving! Our boutique sales also go to our charities.
Last month I mentioned a trunk show by Sharlene Jorgenson. It was amazing. Her quilts were an inspiration for us all. What a talented lady! She had her own TV show, Quilting in the Heartland, for many years, and still has many books, patterns, and rulers sold under the same name. How lucky we are to have these talented people at our fingertips. Speaking of talented people, we also had Pat Brenner who gave us a trunk show. She is also an awesome talented lady. We are hoping to have enough interested ladies to have her back to teach us how to make a quilted footstool in a day. Our Feb. meeting was extremely busy. The Az. Quilters Guild president and a couple of other board members visited, caught us up on the latest happenings within the guild. Our UFO Challenge was due. What a show'n'tell that was!! I don't have the exact numbers, but I think the treasury got a little richer. For those of you wondering, each member turns in a list of UFO's we want to finish and we pay $1.00 for each item, at the end of the challenge, anything on the list NOT finished, the $1.00 stays in the treasury. Our expectations are always bigger than our time allows, so the treasury grows just a bit.
Next was our past president's challenge. Last March, we were challenged to make pillowcases, one or more. We had 37 pillowcases turned in so far. These will be going to the Center of Hope in April along with the many quilts we are making for them. These pillowcases were made mostly from donated fabric stash. What a beautiful assortment. Look for the display at the show.....
Diane Grenier, from the Hummingbird Quilters, gave us an interesting talk on the Civil War Underground Railroad quilts. She also displayed her civil war sampler quilts. Amazing! Thank you, Diane. Throw in a couple of Git 'Er Done working days and you have an idea what our Feb. was like.
SEE YOU AT THE QUILT SHOW, MARCH 5th. 8 to 3
And then, we'll be ready to go to more of the many quilt shows in the area in March.
In January, our new officers were formally sworn into their new positions. And started their official duties, by the way, they did a mighty fine job!
As I am writing this, I wish I could tell you all about the trunk show we had also in January, but it isn't happening until next week. I know it will be great and can hardly wait. So exciting to see all the different quilts that are out there just waiting for us. In the meantime, I can tell you the cochair persons for the Quilt show on March 5th met and are setting the wheels in motion for another "BIG Show."
NEW QUILTS!!!!! NEW DEMOS!!!!!!!!!!!! NEW HOURS!!!!!!!!
We have many things happening in February. The "presidents challenge" is due. Our past president challenged us last year at this time, to make one or more pillowcases. These pillowcases will be given to our charity project, Center of Hope, with the many quilts we will be taking to them in April. And then, our new president will be presenting us with a "new challenge," for this year. I wonder what will it be?????????? Also, ufo's, (unfinished objects) are DUE. If you haven't finished the items on your personal list you turned in last February, ladies, you will be forfeiting some cold hard cash to our treasury. How rich will we be?
Also in Feb., we have not one, but two trunk shows. WOW! The first show, then becoming a class on making a classy footstool for our homes. We have days set aside for working on our charity quilts and also some items for the "sale" table at the quilt show. Hmmmmmm, February being a short month, we'll be busy but "we can do it."
Oh, yes, and last but not by any means, less, The Quilt Show, don't forget!!! Mark your calendar for March 5th, you really don't want to miss this years show. And we will remind you again with a few signs, watch for them! Oh, just another thought, tell your friends out of the park, they really wouldn't want to miss it either. See you there! Remember, the show will go on, Rain or Shine!
QUILT, Ladies, QUILT!!!
